Webb's City Cellar: World's Most Unusual Cellar

Stationed on the East side of the Green Bench beer garden, Webb’s City Cellar boasts offerings aplenty that both overlap with and depart from Green Bench’s main tasting room. Webb’s City is a room dedicated to exploration and conversation, with a 21+ age restriction to encourage guests to slow down, chill out (both literally and figuratively), and sip without distraction. The space is also devoid of televisions. The bartenders at Webb’s are well-versed in not only the process that the offerings go through to become what they are, but the people who make them, the lore that drives them, and the flavors they bear.

Such attention to service and offerings earned Webb’s City Cellar the esteemed honor of becoming a James Beard Semifinalist in the Outstanding Bar category. While advancement to Finalist was not in the cards this year, gratitude and awe throughout the brewery flow like pilsner. Founding Brewer and Co-Owner, Khristopher Johnson reflects, “I feel extremely grateful and humbled that Webb's City Cellar has been recognized by The James Beard Foundation this year. To be mentioned as a Semifinalist, alongside such dedicated businesses, by the premier hospitality foundation in the country, is a credit to our team and their passions for service, sustainability, and quality. The support that Webb's City Cellar has received over the last five years from the St. Petersburg and greater Tampa Bay Area community has been incredible, and it reminds us that we'd rather serve no community more than the one here in our home.”

Another thread that weaves through the ethos of Webb’s City Cellar is making the elevated accessible. One of the ways that’s executed is through consistent programming that’s focused on education and pairing. Some of the current programming includes:

Table Beer Thursday - Guests receive a complimentary four ounce pour of one of a draft table beer for simply arriving at Webb’s City Cellar! Accompanying the complimentary pour is a curated menu of bottle pours by the glass, written by Green Bench’s own James Kerr. Curated bottles are 15% off for the evening.

Third Thursday Wine Tasting - This is a monthly free wine tasting, offered from 6-8p in the beer garden on the third Thursday of each month. David Heath of NADA Wine works with the Green Bench and Webb’s hospitality team to offer a delicious lineup of ethically made and environmentally conscious wines. Third Thursday wines by the bottle are 15% off, for consumption both on- and off-premises.

Lingering Thought - An ode to Foeder For Thought, Green Bench’s celebration of fermentation-forward beers thrown in conjunction with Good Beer Hunting, Lingering Thought is the first Thursday of each month and features producers that have joined the brewery for the festival in the past. The menu includes bottles from the producer poured by the glass, and lasts throughout the weekend.

Webb’s City Cellar is open Thursday and Friday at 4p, and Saturday and Sunday at noon. Hours are subject to change, pending private event rentals, information for which can be found here.
